On Friday, February 12th, the Carmel Men’s Basketball team took on the Hamilton Southeastern Royals at the Eric Clark Activity Center! With the end of the regular season in sight, Carmel was looking to take down a strong Hamilton Southeastern team. It was the Hounds and the Royals, and here is your recap of it all!

At the beginning of the first, the Hounds came out of the gate providing strong defense! Junior Charlie Williams was the first to score for the Hounds! However, the Royals were able to knock down a three! Junior Peter Suder came back with an answer with an additional 2! Halfway through the first quarter, the Hounds were ahead of the Royals with a score of 4-3. Suder was able to put up 2 more with 30 seconds to go! Senior Wil Leary was able to make one final three attempt as the clock expired, and drew the foul! Leary went ⅔ at the line. At the end of the first quarter the Hounds had the advantage with a score of 10-5!

Opening up the second quarter of play, Leary hit a 3! The Hounds continued to have strong defense that allowed HSE for minimal scoring. On the other end of the court, Leary was able to lay it in for 2 more! Suder was able to slam it home, extending Carmel’s lead to 17-7, with 5 minutes to go! Senior Connor Gioia was able to nail in a 3! Sophomore Sam Orme was able to add in on the Hounds scoring as well! Going into the locker room at half time, the Hounds were ahead of the Royals with a score of 27-13!

Coming back out for the second, the Hounds were nonetheless determined to continue playing strong defense and their sharp shooting. Williams was able to lay it in for a 2 to open the scoring for the second half. Both Suder and Williams went on a hot streak and scored a combined 13 points throughout the third quarter. Gioia was also able to knock in another 3! Going into the fourth, the Hounds were leading the Royals by a score of 43-25!

In the final quarter of play, the Hounds were not letting up! They would only allow for the Royals to score five points throughout the entirety of the 8 minutes of play left! However, the Royals were not done just yet! They would only allow Carmel to put up 6 more throughout the quarter. Despite the strong efforts put in by HSE in the last quarter, it would not be enough to stop the Hounds! Carmel would improve to a record of 17-2 defeating HSE 49-30!

The Hounds play next this Friday, February 19th at the Eric Clark Activity Center against the Warren Central Warriors! You can catch all the action here at 91.3 WHJE or whje.com! Tipoff is set for 7:30!
