On October 25th, Carmel’s favorite fall tradition returned this weekend, the Ghosts & Goblins Run! This event was presented by the Carmel Education Foundation, and 91.3 WHJE was live on the scene to capture all the excitement, energy, and costumes!
Hosts Chloe Jones and Franklin Vrtis kicked off the morning from the Carmel High School parking lot, surrounded by upbeat music, families in costume, and a community ready to race. Participants chose between the 1K and 5K courses, both packed with a spooky spirit. From inflatable dinosaurs and flaming hot Cheetos, to full Elvis impersonators, the creativity did not disappoint. They even met a family of Elvises, Jill and Alex Davis, who told us about their annual costume tradition. “We started running as a family and won the costume contest that year,” Jill said. “We’ve come back every year since, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, now Elvis!”
The celebration continued with after race snacks, photos, and prizes for top finishers in each age group. But the Ghosts & Goblins Run is more than just fun, it’s for a cause. All proceeds go to the Carmel Education Foundation, which funds scholarships and grants across Carmel Clay Schools.
Even Superintendent Dr. O. joined in on the fun. “This is one of my favorite events,” he said. “The Carmel Education Foundation does incredible work supporting our students, and it’s amazing to see the community show up like this every year.”
Back at the station, Maurice Ashkar, host of Six Degrees of Musical Separation, kept the spooky vibes alive with a special Halloween playlist featuring “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder, “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” by The Cramps, and “Toxic” by Britney Spears
Couldn’t make it this year? Don’t worry, Ghosts & Goblins is an annual tradition, and we’ll be back next October to cover all the costumes, chaos, and community spirit once again. To learn more or donate, visit GhostsandGoblinsRun.com.
