Blog Post#36 – Recap Carmel Men’s Basketball v. Lawrence North

On Thursday, February 4th, the Carmel Men’s Basketball team traveled to Lawrence North to take on the Wildcats in what could be the game that decided the MIC! The #3 Hounds went into the game with a record of 15-1 while the #2 Wildcats held a record of 16-1. It was the Hounds and the Wildcats and here is your recap of it all!

At the beginning of the first quarter, the Wildcats took the early lead as TJ Gunn (LN) was able to hit a 3! With a slow start for the Hounds, Charlie Williams was able to score first with three minutes to go in the first. Senior Nick Frische was the next to score allowing Carmel to take the lead, with a score of 6-5 with one minute to go in the first quarter! As the final seconds ticked down, senior Wil Leary was able to beat the buzzer! With one quarter of play down, the Hounds led over the Wildcats with a score of 8-5!

As the second quarter began, Leary came out strong with a three, extending Carmel’s lead to 11-5! Carmel put up strong defense to start the second, and were able to hold off the Wildcats from scoring for the majority of the quarter! On the other end of the floor, Peter Suder was able to put in a layup! The score was 13-5 halfway through the second! However, don’t count out the Wildcats yet! Brown (LN) was able to knock down a three! But, Leary had an answer as he knocked down another three! Suder was also able to be successful with a three before halftime! Going into the locker room, the Hounds were ahead of the Wildcats with a score of 19-11!

Coming back out for the second half of play, the Hounds were determined to knock off the second ranked team in the state, as Josh Whack opened the scoring with a three! Suder was also able to hammer in another three! He would score six throughout the quarter. Sam Orme was also able to chime in on the scoring side with 11 points solely in the third quarter! The Hounds would go into the fourth quarter with an 18 point lead by a score of 38-20!

Suder and Leary continued their successful shooting in the fourth as they both were able to put in layups and knock down threes! Halfway through the final quarter of play, the Hounds were ahead of the Wildcats with a score of 47-28! Bryce Beery checked into the game and was able to put up ten in the final minutes of play! Josh Whack and Connor Gioia were also able to score! As time expired, the Hounds would defeat the Wildcats with a score of 63-49! The Hounds would advance to 16-1, while the Wildcats would drop to 16-2!

The Hounds take on the Hamilton Southeastern Royals this Friday, February 12th, at 7 p.m. in the Eric Clark Activity Center! The game will be a Varsity matchup only. You can catch all the action here at 91.3 WHJE or whje.com!
