Blog Post #39 – Rileython Week 3 (Jacob Young)

Katelyn Conley

Welcome to the third week of Rileython! We are quickly approaching February 27th! If feasible, make sure you keep donating under the Rileython tab on our website! Every donation is greatly appreciated! It all goes back to the kids! To kick off this week, I had the opportunity to interview Jacob Young! Young is a senior here at Carmel and is heavily involved with CHTV and Cabinet! The purpose of the interview was to ask him what Rileython and Dance Marathon means to him, and why these events are important.

Dance Marathon is so meaningful to me because it is the culmination of so much hard work that went into helping Riley. It also means so much because helping the kids at Riley is so important because all kids deserve to live a healthy and happy life and Riley makes that possible through all of their work, research, and treatment.” Young said that he hopes to raise $5,000 by the time of Dance Marathon. Additionally, he commented on why Rileython was so important! “Rileython is a great idea because it gives an opportunity for WHJE to support a great cause and to help inform the school and community about Dance Marathon and Riley.” He stated that these events are valuable because they are all for the kids! (FTK!)

Finally, I asked Young what was his why? Why do you get involved? Why do you do what you do? Why should people tune in to Rileython? His response was, “I fight for every kid at Riley who is fighting to live a life that so many including myself take advantage of every day. Many people don’t know this, but only 4% of national cancer funding goes towards researching and treating pediatric cancer. I think that is sad and it needs to be higher. I am also fighting for a day when there will no longer be a need for a Dance Marathon because there is no longer such a need for it.”

Make sure you tune in to 91.3 WHJE or whje.com on February 27th, starting at 8 a.m.! Don’t forget that you can donate all month long under the Rileython tab on our website!
