Historical Hiccups – Gombe Chimpanzee War
March 20, 2023
War was often thought about as a human activity throughout history.
This all changed in 1978 when we learned that our closest relative, the
chimpanzee also took part in our favorite violent activity as well.
It was called, The Gombe Chimpanzee Civil War.

Another interesting historical event, as always. This one is a nice follow-up to the episode about the emu war, except now there are only animals. Can’t wait to listen to more in the future!

Ok Ryan, what a great podcast. The detail that was put into this podcast was clear and I enjoyed every moment of it. I never thought a such thing could happen, yet alone be this interesting. I cannot wait for what you have planned for your next podcast.

Incredible podcast! The unique chimp topic was both fascinating and emotional. Stellar production, song choices, and pacing made it an enjoyable listen. Loved the Emu War callback. Great job!

As usual, this was a very interesting topic! It reminded me of your earlier episode on the Emu war, except no humans were involved in this one. I really loved the callback to that at the end. The sound quality was great! Good job!

I thought this was a very interesting topic and I had never heard of this before. I liked the funny descriptions of the biting and fighting but I also felt sad that the chimps were killing each other.

I really like this topic! I think that these are things we do not get taught in school, and it is fun to get info about them!

I’ve never heard of this story, and I thought it was really interesting, thought I knew that other species did fight within themselves I hadn’t ever heard a story about them.
Elysia Cappaert • Mar 27, 2023 at 10:15 am
The pure absurdity of the topic combined with the dry delivery of the humor creates a fantastic episode in this series. Great job Ryan!

It’s kind of interesting to think about how our own cousins, the chimpanzee, goes to war with it ‘s fellow chimps. The thought of it is funny, but once you actually get into it, it’s just like human war.
