Sophie Jallow
Sophie Jallow is a senior and in her 2nd year of radio. She originally took radio as a sophomore before taking a gap year due to not enough space being available on her schedule, only to find herself rejoining WHJE during senior year due to her passion for broadcasting. As an avid lover of music, Sophie hopes to introduce more songs to expand the variety of the station across all music genres. “If the only legacy I leave behind at Carmel is adding music to the station so future radio students can use those songs to express themselves during their live shows, that would be satisfaction enough.” Sophie chose radio despite having to drop German after taking it all throughout high school because of this sentiment. She is current president of the Black Student Alliance and seeks to give recognition to black artists and how they pioneered many popular genres today such as blues, jazz, reggae, and rap. She also enjoys music of other languages and tends to add those songs to the station so all WHJE students feel represented as much as possible. In her eyes, music transcends language and brings people together, which is her motive for joining staff. Sophie is extremely passionate about music and sharing it with others. In the wake of her senior year, she realized it was better late than never to be apart of a wonderful team like WHJE!
