On Friday, September 18th, the Carmel Greyhounds traveled to Lawrence North! After a nail biting ending with the Pike Red Devils only a week ago, the Greyhounds (2-2) came in prepared against the Wildcats (3-1), who were handed their first loss last week against North Central.

The game began with the Wildcats on the board first, as Donovan McCulley completed a pass to Omar Cooper for a 43 yard touchdown run halfway through the first quarter. However, the Greyhounds countered as they were able to march down the field, eventually ending with Zach Osborne making an eight yard dash into the endzone.

Going into the second quarter, with an even score of 7-7, the Greyhounds were able to find an edge. The Carmel kicker, Spencer Hanna, scored a 28 yard field goal midway through the quarter, allowing the Hounds to take the lead 10-7. After an unsuccessful drive by the Wildcats, the Hounds were able to get the ball back. As Colton Parker had a 50 yard touchdown run, Carmel was able to extend their lead to 17-7. Lawrence North came out with a strong offense, and were able to get Ali Richardson to score right as the half ended. Carmel went into the locker room with a score of 17-14.

With the Hounds coming out for the second half, it became the Spencer Hanna show for the entirety of the third quarter. Carmel scored three field goals, Hanna kicking two of the three within the third quarter, extending Carmel’s lead to 26-14! Carmel’s defense played a tough quarter and was able to obtain the Wildcats from scoring!

Nevertheless, the Wildcats were not out of the game yet, as Ali Richardson scored his second rushing touchdown of the game at the beginning of the fourth. The Wildcats attempted a 2 point conversion, but ended up empty handed. Within the next two minutes of the game, Zach Osborne was able to score a 32 yard touchdown, increasing the lead to 33-20! But, the Wildcats refused to back down. With a turn around, Omar Cooper and Ali Richardson were able to score two touchdowns, running the clock down to the final two minutes of the game! The Lawrence North Wildcats were leading the Carmel Greyhounds 34-33. With under a minute to go, the Greyhounds were able to find themselves in Lawrence North territory. Eventually, with 3 seconds left on the clock, the Greyhounds would bring in Spencer Hanna in an attempt to finish the game. From 34 yards out, Hanna was able to make the kick! The Greyhounds won 36-34! Additionally, Spencer Hanna set a school record for most kicks (5) within a game!

The Greyhounds are back in action next Friday, September 25th at North Central! WHJE will be on the call beginning at 6:30, with the game to follow at 7! Tune into 91.3 WHJE or whje.com!
