Tonight, the Carmel Girls Soccer team defeated the Zionsville Eagles 1-0 in the first round of sectionals and punched their ticket to the sectional semifinals. There, they will face the winner of the North Central and Cathedral matchup that will be happening later this evening. This win continues a ten game streak where the Greyhounds have not lost, and is their ninth win in ten games. There was a tie down that stretch, which interestingly enough came against the Eagles. This was a highly anticipated matchup, as heading into this game, both teams were nationally ranked within the top 25, and the Eagles had not lost a game all year. The win improves the Greyhounds to 13 wins, 1 tie, and 2 losses on the season.
It was a quiet first half for both of the teams, as nobody was able to score in the first 40 minutes of play. Heading into this game, Adalyn Cameron has been the leading goal scorer for the Greyhounds, as she had 33 goals heading into this matchup. As time went on, the Eagles were not able to contain her in the second half, as she picked up goal number 34 to help propel the Greyhounds to the next round.
The Greyhounds will play tomorrow night at 7:30 P.M. in the sectional semifinals happening at Zionsville High School. Coverage for that game will be provided by WHJE, with Evan Bardos and Reilly Sweeney on call.
