In the first few weeks of the season, Carmel Girls Basketball is off to a hot start. Through 9 games the Hounds are 6-3 which is certainly an improvement from last year’s 4-5 start. One of the main reasons for this great turn around is first year head coach Jessica Darmelio. Coach Darmelio attributes her teams success to the culture and unity of the team and how connected each player is. The lady hounds have proven that team is more valuable than talent and did it through a six game winning streak from November 8th to November 25th. However, the lady hounds have had to fight through some adversity as well. Guard Catherine Bassi has been out after tearing her ACL last season and is working towards recovery, and Guard Layla Abdo as well has missed the last few games fighting her own injury. Even then, coach Darmelio says that even without a full team this season that the hounds are able to match up on the court with any team. The Carmel Lady Hounds will take on the 6-4 Fort Wayne Snider Panthers on December 13th at 1:30 PM. Make sure to tune into that on 91.3 WHJE with Gavin Snyder and Alex Cole on the call.
