For the first time in the careers of these Greyhound basketball players, they are sectional champions. Prior to the back-to-back victories on March 6th and 7th, none of the current Greyhound players had won even a sectional game, as the last time the Hounds won a sectional game was during their state championship year in 2021. With that, the two teams the Hounds beat this year were teams that they had lost to years before. In the 2024-25 season, the Millers defeated the Hounds 51-32 in the sectional first round, but the Hounds got their revenge, winning 44-30 this year, led by Cash Daniels’s 9 points. In the 2023 season, the Hounds had their season ended by the Fishers Tigers 54-41, but the Greyhounds were able to get the massive upset this year by just one point, 50-49, with Senior center Evan Harrell leading the way with 18 points. Nobody could have thought the Greyhounds could get it done, especially after the ejection of Junior point guard Cash Daniels in the first half. Fishers was the number one team in Indiana, top 25 nationally ranked, and hadn’t lost a game all year, going 24-0 before the loss. They were even returning star guard Jason Gardner, but the Greyhounds still prevailed.
Next up for Carmel is regionals on 3/14 at 4pm. They will face Fort Wayne Snider (19-7) at New Castle High School. These two teams haven’t met this season, and have only played two of the same opponents. The Hounds will remain without Cash Daniels, and will look to seniors Julian Vogt and Ben Bremer to step up. Catch the action here on 91.3 WHJE, with Cooper Sanders and Will Engledow on the call.
